Our Story
SJFD History
Homer Wright donated the land for the Fire Department. Residents with various skills and backgrounds partnered with a contractor to build the firehouse. The Fire Department, Fire Police, and EMS are all run by volunteers—some of whom have been serving for more than 20 years!
The Fire Department was formed as a nonprofit entity, separate from the Town of St. James and the St. James Plantation Property Owners Association. A board of directors, elected annually by St. James residents, oversees the department. It is funded by the Town of St. James and Brunswick County taxes. Additional funds are raised through semiannual pine straw and mulch sales organized by the SJFD.
