The St. James Fire Department’s Board of Directors elected Kevin T. Murphy of St. James as its successor to retiring Chief Scott Boyer. Kevin is a U. S. Army veteran and a 40-year firefighter veteran currently serving both the St. James and Stoney Point, NC Fire Departments in leadership and training capacities. “Kevin brings a wealth of firefighting knowledge, skills, teaching abilities and strong communication abilities. He is also an NC Certified Paramedic. We are truly fortunate to have a Chief of his caliber to continue to lead our department into the future.”, said SJFD President Jim Crum. Kevin will assume his new duties April 1, 2026, and work with Chief Boyer as Deputy Chief during the transition period.
