The St. James Fire Department Board of Directors hosted its 2 nd annual picnic on Saturday June 7th.

The purpose was to show their appreciation to our volunteers and their families who provide Fire & Emergency Services throughout the St. James Fire District. We are very proud of our volunteers that spend time away from their families to train weekly and respond to medical emergencies. The SJFD “All Volunteer” department has 100 volunteers who staff many fire suppression apparatus and 2 BLS ambulances 24/7.

Through May, Firefighters have responded to 120 alarms with 1780 volunteer responses. EMS have responded to 394 calls with 51 transports to area hospitals generating 1802 responses. Our Fire Police volunteers have answered the call to 402 incidents with 1920 responses.

The festivities began with Lt. Dennis Ryan playing his bagpipes to welcome the guests. A special thank you to our supporters: Smokehouse BBQ who catered the meal, Chuck’s Ice Cream provided homemade ice cream, Musical entertainment was provided by “Double Cherry Pie” and Cape Fear Radio’s Chris Cadman. After the meal, lawn game competitions were held on the lawn of the Woodland’s Park Pavilion.

A special shout to the SJFD Recruitment Committee for their planning efforts and implementing all activities.
